BLS Instructor Course
The BLS Instructor Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in resuscitation courses. The AHA requires that Instructors be at least 16 years of age. The course will cover: Basic Life Support course organization, course content including appropriate BLS skills, instructor responsibilities and American Heart Association Guidelines. Students will learn to use lectures, scenarios, interactive case presentations, video-based learning to teach the BLS courses and to develop the skills in students testing, assessment and remediation that will help their student master basic life support skill and knowledge.
Course Length: Approximately 8-9½ hours
Intended Audience: Individuals desiring to partner with American Heart Association and who are motivated to teach and facilitate learning of the life saving skills of CPR to others. These individuals are motivated to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion and views student assessment as a way to improve knowledge and skills.
Prerequisites:
- All prospective participants must have a current BLS for Healthcare Providers card; for non-healthcare professionals, a current Heartsaver First Aid provider card is also required.
- Completed the Core Instructor Course
- Complete an Instructor Candidate Application

- Most current edition of the required AHA Provider textbooks and Instructor’s manuals for each CPR course.

Card Type: Course Completion Card
Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card
BLS Instructor Monitoring: Instructor Candidates will be required to complete at least one provider class under the supervision of a Training Center Faculty Member. Candidates may require additional sessions as determined by Training Center Faculty and the Training Center Coordinator.
NOTE: Instructor candidates are NOT paid for their time during their supervised monitoring by Therapeutic Professionals.
Cost: $150 Renewal
$200 First Time Student or if your BLS Instructor Card is Expired
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the Association.
